Why go? An institution and shrine to the soup dumpling. The name translates to "Nanxiang Dumpling House" but this multilevel restaurant is more like a castle, with views of the bazaar outside and of the cooks inside. There are a variety of dumplings to try, and all will please, but the best is the classic xiao long bao, preferably with pork and crab. Enjoy in your choice of settings (the nicer, the pricier), and hone your technique to ensure maximum broth intake. Plan right or be prepared to wait a while, but this place is not to be missed if you find yourself in Shanghai.
